BUNDABERG RUM BONDSTORE DISTILLERY TOUR

In 1888, the first barrel of Bundaberg Rum literally rolled out of the production line. 110 years later, Bundaberg Rum, through its trials and tribulations, has gained recognition as one of Australia’s famous Aussie spirits. In 1986 the Bundaberg Distilling Company appointed its first tour guide and demand soon saw the need to expand the tourist operation.

A guided tour will have you look, feel and taste your way through the making of the Famous Aussie Spirit. Starting with the raw material molasses, to the aromas of maturing spirit, your temptations will run high for a refreshing sample in the bar with a variety of Bundy mixes and Rum liqueur based drinks.

Visiting the Bundaberg Rum Distillery is an experience that is enjoyed most by adults. On the tour you will see, smell and taste your way through the rum production progress. You’ll enjoy a video presentation, extensive tour, personal sampling, historical displays and opportunity to purchase merchandise and some unique souvenirs.

The Museum and Merchandise shop are open to the public.

Children are certainly welcome but there are no on-site children’s activities outside of the tour.

The Visitor Centre and most of the tour route is accessible by wheelchair or walking frame. The use of motorised wheelchairs is more restricted due to the potential for ignition in highly flammable areas.

To help our foreign visitors, our notes are available in most common languages.

Group bookings of 15 or more are welcome by prior arrangement. The maximum group size is 50 people, less if the group consists mostly of children or visitors with special needs.

Please ensure that you arrive at least 15 – 20 mins early for your tour, especially for the last tour of the day and during school holiday periods.

A requirement of tour admission is that visitors must wear suitable clothing and fully enclosed foot wear as they are visiting an operating factory site. Shoe hire is available on site.

• Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum

• Maryborough Tours

• Criterion Hotel

• The Port Residence Licensed Restaurant & Function Centre

• Maryborough Riverboat Cruises

• Post Office Hotel

Maryborough’s Portside district runs from the Brolga Theatre along the Mary River to the Marina and extends out to parts of Kent, Bazaar and March Streets in the CBD.

The history of Portside is extensive, dating back to 1847 when the port was opened for the transport of wool, right up to the closure of Walkers shipyard in 1974.

As the only port during the colonial times, the Wharf Street district held all the glitz and glamour to be found.

In 1999, the luxury liner, Norwegian Star, made a visit to the port and with the renown of Fraser Island and Hervey Bay whale watching, the future of the Portside area may well have its place as a regular stopover feature of luxury cruises.

Our belief is that the potential for refurbishment and rebirth is limited only to our imaginations. And we, of the Maryborough Portside / Wharf Street business district, know no imaginative bounds!!

One of the highlights of the Maryborough Portside businesses is a five hour Ship to Shore Tour held on the 3rd Saturday of every month.

Ship to Shore includes an air-conditioned Colonial bus tour of the town of Maryborough, a Sunset river cruise on the Mary River and a horse and wagon ride from the Maryborough Museum to the Post Office Hotel.

You will enjoy wine and cheese tasting at the Criterion Hotel, an elegant 2 course meal at the beautiful Port Residence and dessert at the historic Post Office Hotel.

You will experience an unforgettable evening that is second to none when it comes to combining history, entertainment, fine cuisine and enjoyment.

Residents arrive in historic colonial dress to enhance the value of the tour for visitors to our area.

Embark on an evening to remember with an exciting interactive tour of Maryborough’s Wharf Street and Portside.

3rd Saturday of each month.
March – August at 4:00pm
September – February at 4:30pm

Bookings are essential and can be made at the Maryborough Visitor Information Centre, City Hall, Kent Street.

The Valley Rattler” steam heritage tours are operated by The Mary Valley Heritage Railway (MVHR) every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesdays.

Tours depart from the historic Gympie Railway station and the destination varies according to the day of operation.

The “Red Rocket” Heritage Railmotor operates every Tuesday morning.

The Rattler’s spectacular journey begins at historic Gympie Railway Station. Built in 1913, the station building is a living tribute to Gympie and Cooloola’s golden rail heritage which began in the 1870′s and is a link to the region’s “Golden” past.

Passing through Gympie City, its southern suburbs and the station at Monkland, The Rattler crosses the Mary River. The journey continues into the scenic Mary Valley where the railway line negotiates the steep slopes of the Mary River, offering spectacular views. Throughout the Rattler’s journey, the traveller can experience rural life and view commercial dairies, livestock enterprises and the farms of the steep slopes of the Mary Valley which produce pineapples, macadamias and other crops.

The Mary Valley line has an abundance of curves, gradients and bridges. These are evidence of the hard work that was needed to build the railway line before and during the First World War. The Mary Valley line includes stations at the villages of Dagun, Amamoor, Kandanga and Imbil. The Rattler stops at these fully restored, landscaped and original stations where good, old fashioned country hospitality can be enjoyed.
